Taylor set to ponder new deal as Fenton heads out

Rotherham United manager Andy Scott has had a busy couple of days trying to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion next season.

Six players have been offered new deals at Don Valley, while six have been released and a further two have been transfer-listed.

Millers fans will be happy to know that 11-goal striker Ryan Taylor, who has been linked with a move to relegated Championship club Scunthorpe, has been offered new terms.

The 23-year-old former youth team player has had by far his best season at the club, hitting double figures in 30 starts.

Midfielder Nicky Law, 23, is another to be offered a contract.

The 18-year-old midfielder Ollie Banks, son of the renowned Ian Banks, who scored a debut goal with only his second touch after coming on at the weekend, has been offered the chance to shine again.

Industrious central midfielder Jason Taylor, who notched five goals in 43 outings this season, right-back Dale Tonge, who has over 100 club appearances, and back-up goalkeeper Jamie Annerson have also impressed enough to be offered new deals.

It is now up to those players to commit to the club.

Experienced centre-back Nick Fenton, who has 127 appearances for the Millers, including 34 this season, is perhaps the most surprising of those not to be offered fresh terms.

The 31-year-old former Manchester City defender, who has been with the club three years, played over 50 times in his debut season, forming a successful partnership with Ian Sharpe at the heart of Rotherham’s defence, but Scott has decided it is time for him to move on.

Versatile full-back Stephen Brogan, 23, is another to be released. The former youth player has been restricted by injuries ever since suffering a double leg fracture in 2008 and made only three appearances this term.

Much-travelled winger Kevin Ellison and out-of-favour left-back Jamie Green have also been released, along with Luke Ashworth and Grant Darley.

Striker Tom Pope, who has managed only four goals in 53 league appearances for the club, and Welsh international midfielder Mark Bradley have been placed on the transfer list.
