Veteran Warne sets example to Millers

Millers striker Warne and Bristol Rovers striker McGleish are 38 but both will be involved in today’s game at the Don Valley Stadium.

Warne, who is also part of the Millers coaching staff, made his first appearance of the season as a substitute in the midweek trip to Gillingham.

McGleish has been on the bench for Rovers’ last two games but has bagged nine goals this season.

Scott said: “McGleish is probably a better goalscorer than Paul but they have both had similar types of careers in terms of length and quality. Paul is as enthusiastic as ever and that rubs off on people.

“When the younger players see players of that age still being professional, it inspires them to look at the reasons why they are still going at that stage in their careers. He was outstanding the other night and has been itching to play.”

Warne, now in his second spell with the Millers, needs just three more appearances to reach the 450-mark for his career.

He is out of contract in the summer but would like to stay.

“It would be nice to be around next season and, if I stay, that would be my 10th season at the club,” he said.

“I would be open-minded whether that be as a player or some other capacity.

“Although people don’t believe me, I still train really hard and I still look after myself and play in the reserves every week. Unfortunately, I am in a squad where most people are better than me and that’s the sad reality!”

The Millers are unbeaten in four games but five points adrift of the play-off zone.
