Former Rotherham United loanee Nouha Dicko scored a hat-trick as Wolves took a step closer to the League One title with this win over the Millers.
Molineux’s biggest crowd for over 33 years – 30,110 – saw Dicko grab goals on 20, 33 and 79 minutes. His feat was matched by Millers’ striker Kieran Agard who, following goals on 13 and 61 minutes, added a third with two minutes of normal time to go.
Agard had got the 10-goal scoring spree underway, but Dicko’s initial brace turned the game on its head and Dave Edwards struck to make it 3-1 seven minutes before half-time.
After Agard drew Millers within a goal again, Dicko – who had scored twice for Rotherham in the reverse fixture at New York Stadium – made it 4-2.
Amazingly, goals from Joe Skarz and Agard, again, had the Millers chasing an improbable victory having clawed back to 4-4.
But Sam Ricketts’s first goal for Wolves a minute from the end of normal time and Kevin McDonald’s strike during the six minutes of time added on sealed the high-scoring triumph.
Wolves face potential Football Association action as four pitch invasions overshadowed the win.
They will go to Leyton Orient on Monday lunchtime still needing up to four more points to seal the title after Brentford beat Preston 1-0.
The kick-off had been delayed for 10 minutes to allow the crowd the chance to get in safely after an accident on the M1 held up Rotherham fans.
