Wycombe 2 Rotherham United 2: Millers disappointed to only claim a point

Leading scorer Daniel Nardiello struck twice, but Rotherham United had to be content with a point following a hard-fought contest at Adams Park.

The striker answered Joel Grant’s early goal for Wycombe by bagging a second-half double to take his tally for the season to 17, but Wycombe substitute Gary Doherty popped up 10 minutes from time to deny Steve Evans’s promotion hopefuls.

There was suspicion of offside in the build-up to Wycombe’s goal after only seven minutes, turned in by Grant from Bruno Andrade’s cross, but the Millers went on to enjoy long spells of dominance.

David Noble drove straight at goalkeeper Jordan Archer and Nardiello flashed a header wide from Lee Frecklington’s feed in a dull first half.

Alex Revell also tested the goalkeeper but Wanderers, always looking to hit on the break, nearly delivered a sucker punch at the other end. However, captain Dave Winfield could not direct his header on target from Sam Wood’s corner.

Rotherham made their extra possession count six minutes after the restart when Nardiello got the jump on his marker to steer a header into the top corner of the net from a teasing cross by Huddersfield Town loanee Liam Ridehalgh.

On 64 minutes Nardiello gleefully slid an effort inside the post from Ben Pringle’s centre to put Rotherham ahead.

But with the visitors scenting victory, Doherty headed in a corner by Wood and the home side enjoyed a share of the spoils.
