Wycombe Wanderers v Rotherham United: Millers boss stays quiet on Goodwillie hunting

David Goodwillie is the latest name to appear on the far-reaching radar of Rotherham United manager Steve Evans.

The 23-year-old Scotland striker is out of favour at Blackburn, who he joined from Dundee United in August 2011 for £2m.

Evans wants to bolster his attacking options for the League Two promotion run-in with Rotherham sixth and, Evans believes, in a position to strike.

“There’s always speculation about players and I’m out there working hard to bring in quality players in,” said Evans, who would not confirm his interest in Goodwillie. “I look at lots of players. But we are looking at a striker and a left-sided player.”

The Middlesbrough duo of striker Luke Williams, 19, and left-sided player Adam Reach, 20, are two players that fit the bill and are understood to be in Evans’s sights.

There is no transfer activity expected to be concluded until after the business of tonight’s trip to Wycombe Wanderers, a mid-table side Evans acknowledges as a dangerous proposition.

The fixture comes in the middle of a run of four away games in five that began with the trip to Southend 10 days ago and culminates in Saturday’s visit to Cheltenham.

“We took four points from the first six,” said Evans, whose team then slipped up against Dagenham at home. “I’ve said to the players to keep us within the same points differential to the leading teams after Cheltenham and it will be game on.”

Evans is thriving in the promotion race, an eagerness he also sees in the eyes of his players. “They’ve been relishing it all season,” he said.

Kari Arnason is banned while Mark Bradley (ankle) is a doubt.
