Rotherham Utd v Port Vale : Millers chief welcomes back whistle blower

REFEREE Mark Halsey returns to senior football today after a seven-month battle against throat cancer.

The Premier League official, 48, takes charge of Rotherham United's game against Port Vale at the Don Valley Stadium.

His original comeback, at Accrington Stanley in midweek, was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Millers manager Ronnie Moore said: "We couldn't have asked for anyone better to take charge of such a big game. We are all pleased that his recovery looks to be going fine.

"He will be nervous because he hasn't refereed for a long time but I am sure we won't be talking about the referee after this game – it will be about how we have played."

Victory will lift the Millers back into the automatic promotion places if Bournemouth lose to Bradford City. Vale are unlikely to qualify for the play-offs.
