Round-Up: Guiseley recover from two red cards

FA TROPHY FIRST ROUND: Guiseley's nine men brought holders Barrow crashing back to earth with a remarkable 3-2 victory in the North West, after the big thaw rescued the game.

Ryan Toulson was sent off for a second bookable offence and Guiseley colleague Danny Boshell was shown a red card for dissent after Barrow were awarded a penalty, goalkeeper Steve Drench saving Gregg Blundell's spot-kick. Barrow's Nick Chadwick was also sent off for using an elbow.

Joe O'Neill, James Walshaw and Boshell had Guiseley three goals up in the opening 18 minutes. Blundell opened Barrow's scoring in the 47th minute and after Walshaw sent a 70th-minute penalty wide, Blundell struck again for the hosts.

Drench ensured Guiseley's passage into the next round with that crucial penalty save and delighted manager Steve Kittrick said: "It was a fantastic result. We could have had five or six goals before half-time."

Harrogate Town's interest in the Trophy was ended by impressive visitors Telford, who won 3-0.

Telford dominated the early exchanges and Adam Proudlock and Jon Adams rattled the crossbar within the first 15 minutes.

Almost on half-time, Proudlock gave Telford the lead when he squeezed the ball under Cook at the near post.

Harrogate fought back strongly after the break with Phillips and Foster shooting narrowly wide.

Two late goals in four minutes ended the fightback. Proudlock was left unmarked at the far post to nod in and then he completed his hat-trick with a simple tap-in.

Jake Picton's header hit the post in the last seconds to deny them a consolation goal.

FA Vase: Graeme Whitehead raced into the box and launched himself into a diving header to grab his 13th goal of the season and send Tadcaster Albion into the last 32.

Tadcaster overcame an early shock when Formby went ahead with a penalty but Steve Jeffs netted in the ninth minute to square things and early in the second half Stuart Rice was on target to put them in front.

Formby hit back, looking for a replay, but with time running out, Whitehead's header clinched Albion a fourth-round tie where they will meet the winner of the postponed tie between Billingham and Westfields.

Ryan Damms is another striker in form and he added a hat-trick to the 14 he has scored in all competitions as Staveley beat fellow Northern County Division One outfit Leeds Carnegie 4-1.

It was Welfare's seventh match unbeaten and their other goal came from recent signing Dean Walters and they face a home tie against either Three Bridges or Rye United.

Evo-Stik: Aiden Savory led a super recovery by Bradford Park Avenue who took all three points after trailing by two goals at Burscough.

Kevin Leadbetter and Darren Byers struck in the opening 22 minutes for the home side but Savory's header halved the deficit shortly before half-time and put Avenue level with another header four minutes from the end. There was still time for substitute Chib Chiluka to grab a last-minute victory.

Simon Garner's 53rd-minute headed goal against his old club was enough to give FC Halifax Town the points against FC United of Manchester at Gigg Lane, while Whitby Town had a resounding 3-1 win at Marine. Andy Campbell gave Town a first half lead and although Neil Harvey equalised just before the hour, further goals by captain Tony Hackworth and Campbell saw Whitby safely home.

In Division One North, Nigel Danby's Harrogate Railway Athletic beat the weather and visitors Trafford. A 3-2 win left Railway with a record of just one defeat in their last 11 matches. A rush of early goals saw Jon Maloney put Railway ahead only for Chris Baguley to grab a quick equaliser. Andy Jackson restored Railway's advantage in the 19th minute and although Jamie Baguley put Trafford level again, Mikel Duckworth netted Harrogate's winner a minute into the second half.

Delroy Ferguson got Wakefield off to a flying start at Cammell Laird but the home side hit back to lead 3-1 before Patrick McGuire's late goal.

Sheffield had a 3-1 victory at Loughborough Dynamo in Division One South. Steve Wooley and Andrew Gascoigne built a two-goal lead inside 13 minutes, Matt Langham replied before Matt Roney made it three for Sheffield with a minute left.
