Round-Up: Penalty reversal denies Harrogate

Blue Square North: Harrogate Town's winning run came to a dramatic end with a 1-0 defeat at bottom club Hyde FC.

Harrogate made a confident start and were unlucky not to take the lead when Ciaran Toner's shot rebounded off the inside of the post.

The game's only goal came after 32 minutes when Dean Stott shot through a crowded defence to give the unsighted Mark Cook no chance.

The match ended in controversy after referee Young awarded Harrogate a late penalty,only to change his mind when he noticed the linesman's flag was already raised for offside.

Evo-Stik: Four-goal Alex Davidson swept below-strength North Ferriby United to a 5-2 triumph at Kendal Town, whose seven-match unbeaten run came to an end.

Davidson completed a quick-fire hat-trick in the opening 38 minutes and added his fourth in the 73rd minute. Chris Bolder joined in the five-goal spree, Danny Rowe and substitute Shaun Gardner replying.

Leaders Halifax Town have a five-point advantage over closest challengers Worksop Town after sinking Marine 6-0.

James Dean and Jamie Vardy netted two goals each, Tom Baker scored from the penalty spot after Dean was fouled and Danny Holland started the rout after only seven minutes.

Steve Burton fired a penalty over the bar for Bradford Park Avenue, who failed to give new manager John Deacey a winning start on his return to the club. They could only record a goalless draw at bottom of the table Retford United who have just seven points from 17 matches.

Two late goals helped Whitby Town to a 3-1 victory at Ashton United where Andy Leeson gave Town a 42nd minute lead and Aaron Burns equalised from the penalty spot just before half-time. Chris Batchelor put Town back in front in the 85th minute and there was still time for Andy Campbell to grab his side's third.

Substitute Fernando Moke's late goal failed to rescue Ossett Town from a 2-1 defeat at Nantwich Town, while Stockbridge Park Steels lost 1-0 to their sixth-placed visitors Colwyn Bay, scorer Jon Newby looking offside.

Harrogate Railway lifted themselves off the foot of Division One North with only their second league victory of the season as they hit back to win 2-1 at second placed Chorley. Railway fell behind in the third minute but late goals from Steve Palfrey and Paul Stansfield caused a shock.

Chris Howarth scored twice for Garforth Town in a thrilling 4-3 win over close rivals Woodley Sports. Town built a three-goal lead in the opening 21 minutes through David Brown, Howarth's penalty and Adam Priestley. Sports hit back to draw level in the second half but Howarth's second goal sealed the points.

Ossett Albion, who had central defender Mark Ryan sent off early in the game, fell behind to bottom of the table Leigh Genesis but Shane Kelsey equalised from the penalty spot and Joshua Moore snatched Albion's 75th minute winner. Wakefield, meanwhile, lost 4-1 at Bamber Bridge, Marc Roberts heading their consolation goal on the half hour.

Sheffield moved above hosts Leek Town into 16th place in Division One South with a 2-0 win. Brian Cusworth headed the first inside the opening 10 minutes and Ashley Burberry doubled the advantage eight minutes after the break.

Northern Counties East: Maltby Main officials found it impossible to name a man of the match after their 4-2 win at leaders Farsley so they gave the award to all 11.

With only one win in their last five, Maltby started as second favourites but struck first through Adam Shepherd. Simeon Bambrook equalised within a minute but still Main were playing the better football and cott Whittington's penalty and strike from Greg Mason put them in command.

Goalkeeper Jamie Bailey, who was outstanding, pushed aside a penalty only for Bambrook to react first and reduce the gap, but Main would not be beaten and within a minute Robert Brannigan had hit their fourth.

Former Rotherham and Doncaster Rovers striker Leo Fortune-West opened his account for Armthorpe but they still went down 3-1 at second-placed Parkgate, whose goals came from Nathen Swindells (2) and Keir Hannity.

Craig Palmer and Craig Hogg netted to give Bridlington Town a 2-1 win at Arnold and keep them in touch with the leaders.

Liam Wilkin's hat-trick and two from Jack Cross saw Winterton crush Hallam 5-0, and Brighouse hit five past Hall Road Rangers.
