The arrival of the pair follows on from former Hannover 96 boss Daniel Stendel signing a two-year deal to become the Reds head coach and the trio will begin work on July 1.

Winkler, 48, who spent 17 years in various capacities at German outfit Rot-Weiss Essen, began his playing career at the famed Bayern Munich Academy.

After retirement in 2003, Winkler joined the coaching staff at Essen – managing youth teams at various age groups – before becoming the club’s Sporting Director in 2016.

Meanwhile, Stern, still in his twenties, came through the ranks at Hannover 96 when Stendel was a youth coach.

The utility player signed for Göttingen 03 in 2013 and later joined Havelse before retiring in 2016.

Stern then linked up with Stendel at Hannover as part of the coaching staff.

Highly-rated Leeds United defender Tom Pearce has agreed a new four-year contract until the summer of 2022.

The left-back, who is preparing for the final of the Toulon Tournament in France on Saturday, has accepted improved terms three weeks before the expiry of his previous contract.

Pearce was in a position to move on for a compensation fee next month after Leeds allowed his old deal to run down, but agreement has been reached regarding a new long-term deal.

The 20-year-old’s form had been attracting the interest of Premier League sides Bournemouth and Crystal Palace.

Leeds forward Marcus Antonsson says he has not ruled anything out with his Whites future up in the air.

The Swede has a year left on his deal, but was deemed surplus to requirements last term by former boss Thomas Christiansen.

Antonsson, who spent last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers, said: “I assume I am a Leeds player and I will of course give everything from the first day until something else happens – if something happens.”
