Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly rejected a £5million bid for defender Tom Lees.

Premier Leaguie sides Burnley and Sunderland, plus the Owls’ Championship rivals Derby and Fulham have all made enquiries for the 25-year old centre-back who has been a mainstay of the team since joining from Leeds on a free transfer two years ago.

Hull City’s search for a striker has seen them launch loan bids for Liverpool front man Christian Benteke and Manchester City’s Wilfired Bony.

Benteke’s future at Liverpool is in doubt and Bony has failed to make an impact at Manchester City since moving from Swansea.

Doncaster Rovers’ transfer-listed winger Billy Whitehouse is close to joining Leeds United, according to the Sheffield Star.

The 20-year-old midfielder has recently been on trial with the Elland Road club and is understood to have impressed United’s coaching team.

Whitehouse, who hails from Mexborough, would join up with Leeds’ under-21s squad if the deal goes through, linking up with fellow ex-Rovers youth teamers Paul and Jack McKay.

He was transfer-listed by Darren Ferguson, who has tended to favour formations without out-and-out wingers, at the end of the last season.

Whitehouse made nine appearances for Rovers after being handed his debut by Paul Dickov in 2014 but failed to feature under Ferguson.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is continuing to explore potential loan signings ahead of the new League One season.

The Blades boss, who included trialist Alex Davey in the team which faced Handsworth Parramore last night, has admitted he wants to build relationships with top-flight clubs as part of a plan to attract their young players to Bramall Lane.

Liverpool defender Ryan McLaughlin is on trial with Rotherham United.

The Sheffield Star is reporting the 21-year-old full-back is training with the Millers, who have lodged bids for at least two players as they look to strengthen their squad for their forthcoming Championship campaign.
