Scunthorpe United 1 Huddersfield Town 1: Town keep unbeaten run going - Have Your Say

Huddersfield Town extended their unbeaten league run to 40 games, but only after goalkeeper Ian Bennett dramatically saved two penalties at Glanford Park.

After Chris Dagnall and Michael O’Connor had been denied from the spot by Bennett the visitors then thought they had nicked it when Jordan Rhodes scored from 12 yards to make it 2-1 for the Terriers with four minutes left, but Dagnall popped up to level it again two minutes later.

Following Saturday’s impressive 3-1 home victory against Preston, Terriers manager Lee Clark made just the one enforced change to his starting line-up with former Scotland international Gary Naysmith stepping in to replace the suspended Calum Woods.

In-form Rhodes started again up front, partnering veteran Alan Lee, who was making his 500th career appearance. But it was unchanged Scunthorpe who took a shock 10th-minute lead in the driving rain.

What a cracker it was, as Oliver Norwood picked up the ball just inside the Terriers’ half before steadying himself and crashing home a great shot from well over 30 yards.

Far from being stunned, the visitors soon picked up the pace again and they deservedly levelled matters 14 minutes later through midfielder Tommy Miller.

He took a short pass from Gary Roberts before hammering home an equally-impressive equaliser from just outside the Scunthorpe box.

Buoyed by Miller’s strike, the Terriers then went mighty close to a second when man of the moment Rhodes headed just wide, but the hosts were then awarded a penalty kick 10 minutes before the half-time whistle when Anthony Kay was adjudged to have upended Dagnall.

Dagnall dusted himself down to take the kick, only for Bennett to get down low to save his effort as the travelling faithful roared their approval.

Both sides traded chances at the beginning of the second half as Sam Slocombe saved Lee’s shot before the hosts hit back with Dagnall seeing a shot blocked by Kay.

Amazingly though, Bennett was to keep out a second spot-kick with 19 minutes to go.

This time Peter Clarke handled a cross from O’Connor, only for the Iron midfielder to this time be thwarted from the spot.

The hosts could scarcely believe it, and minutes later they almost found themselves behind when Lee rose brilliantly at the far post but could only guide a header inches over the top.
