Sharps departs Rotherham United for the Shrews

ROTHERHAM skipper Ian Sharps has turned down the offer of a new deal and instead signed a contract with League Two rivals Shrewsbury Town.

Sharps was offered fresh terms to stay with the Millers but has opted to move to the Shrews, ending a four-year association with the club.

Rotherham boss Ronnie Moore said: "It is a little disappointing because Ian has had a good season for us.

"We have offered him a good deal which would have made him the second highest earning player at the club, so we tried our best to keep him here but he has opted to move to Shrewsbury.

"Ian has been a great servant to the club over the years so we wish him all the best for the future. He has done well while he has been here, there is no doubt about that, but we move on and the search for his replacement is ongoing."
