Henderson enjoyed an outstanding campaign at League One play-off finalists Shrewsbury Town last term, with his performances earning him a place in the League One team of the year.

The 21-year-old signed a new deal at Old Trafford last week, keeping him at the club until 2020, with the next step in his development widely expected to be a move to a Championship club on loan.

A number of clubs including Stoke City and Bristol City were also linked with the keeper, but the Blades have won the race to secure his services of the England under-21 custodian.

Henderson said: “I cannot wait to go there to build on the last season I had at Shrewsbury.

“It is in the division above and showing that progression by going on to the next bigger stage, in front of 30,000 passionate fans at Bramall Lane.

“I cannot wait to go there and perform and connect with them. I am sure it will be a successful season.”
