The Blades fought off competition from a number of rivals to sign the Wales international, 18, who is the third-youngest player in Liverpool’s history and became the club’s youngest goalscorer at 17 years and 45 days when he netted in a EFL Cup game against Leeds United in 2016-17.

Capped seven times by Wales, Woodburn, whose arrivals follow the captures of Dean Henderson, John Egan and David McGoldrick, sald: “It’s a little bit daunting, this being my first loan move, but I am excited and looking forward to seeing what it brings.

“I spoke to the manager, had a few chats with him, and his aims for the season are similar to mine. I think we will have a good season.”
