Sheffield United loanee Harry Chapman ready to star for England Under 20s

The Middlesbrough winger, who celebrated his 19th birthday with a belated present on Sunday with a hat-trick in the Blades’ thumping 6-0 FA Cup drubbing of Leyton Orient, flew out on Monday to link up with the under-20s for their Continental Cup adventures in South Korea.

Chapman, who was accompanied by Blades team-mate Louis Reed, was an unused substitute in Wednesday’s 8-1 drubbing of Nigeria at the Suwon Sports Complex.

Chapman is now hoping for some game time in Saturday’s encounter with Iran.

Speaking ahead of his flight to the Far East, the Hartlepool-born player said:  “It (South Korea) is a country I have never been to and I have heard it is a lovely place to go. 

“But we are not there to visit, we are there for business to send a message out for the World Cup.

“We had three wins out of three in the Four Nations and we won a little trophy, which was quite nice and if we win this one, it puts us in good stead for the World Cup.”

The two matches with Nigeria and Iran will provide the young Lions with invaluable overseas tournament experience ahead of the real thing in next summer’s World Cup, which also takes place in South Korea.

Chapman is certainly not short of familiar faces in South Korea, having travelled out with Reed, with Boro team-mate Dael Fry - on loan at Rotherham United - also in the party, along with fellow Millers loanee Izzy Brown.

Barnsley loanee Adam Armstrong is also in the squad and he took centre stage with a hat-trick in the 8-1 routing of Nigeria.

Chapman said: “I get on well with Reedy and he is probably my best mate here. We are the same age and have the same interests.

“It eased your nerves when there are people you know and there is also Dael Fry from Middlesbrough, who I knew really well.

“It stands you in good stead when you know people and you are not by yourself and are mixing with a crowd and it is good.”
