That’s the view of Blades boss Nigel Adkins who brought in the Canadian international on a season-long loan from Birmingham City this week.

The 28-year-old has bags of experience - he finished last season on loan at Huddersfield Town - and will add strength to United’s defence, plus a calming infuence on the dressing room.

He made a winning debut in a 1-0 Capital One Cup success at Morecambe on Tuesday night, just the tonic after an opening day 4-0 loss at Gillingham.

“We were pleased to bring David Edgar in, finally, which was important,” said Adkins. “He had a good debut, we took him off near the end, and (Neill) Collins came on and scored the winning goal. Great header for him.

“Terry Kennedy has been out for a long time, Harrison McGahey is still out injured, and we are a bit light in that position, from a numbers point of view.

“We have two extremely good pro’s in Neill Collins and Jay McEveley, and David Edgar captains the national team in Canada, and already you can what a good pro he is.

“Supporters always see them on the pitch, but it’s how you conduct yourself day-to-day is massively important as well.

“We knew Tuesday would be a tough test. If we had scored early, it may have been a different complexion. It’s about scoring goals and we had more than enough opportunities.”
