The former Everton youngster netted twice from the penalty spot and came close to grabbing a third in the 3-0 win over Plymouth.

Surprisingly, the attacking midfielder has never completed a hat-trick and he revealed after the game that was a personal target for him this season.

“I am a bit disappointed, I have never had a hat-trick before,” he said. “That was one of my aims at the start of the season, to try and get a hat-trick ball.

“I had my chance there, but I can’t cry over spilled milk now.”

The 22-year-old has scored six times this season, and had no doubt that both spot-kicks were deserved.

“Sparky (Marc McNulty) came on, wriggled his way through to get us a penalty, and there was no arguing with the second one as well, their lads knew it was a penalty,” claimed Baxter.

“It was nice to see them hit the back of the net, but more importantly we are into the next round.

“We have had a few draws at home, so it’s nice to get a win and a clean sheet, too,” he continued.

“I thought the back four – and the goalkeeper – were magnificent.”

So would the former Goodison Park youngster fancy drawing Premier League Everton in today’s third-round draw?

“Yeah, that would be great,” smiled Baxter. “We would take anyone in the next round. You saw last year, we will take anyone on.”
