Blades sign Paul Gallagher on loan

SHEFFIELD United have signed Scotland striker Paul Gallagher to help ease a midfield crisis for manager Danny Wilson.

The striker, who can also play as a left winger, has joined the Blades on an initial one month’s loan from Championship side Leicester City.

He looks set to be plunged straight into tomorrow’s team to face Bury at Bramall Lane because United are short in numbers in midfield.

Stephen Quinn was sold to Hull City on transfer deadline day, Nick Montgomery has quit to play football in Australia, while Ryan Flynn and Michael Doyle begin three-match suspensions for their red card in last week’s 1-1 draw at Scunthorpe United.

The 26-year-old former Blackburn Rovers striker said: “It all happened quite quickly.

“I spoke with Danny Wilson and liked what he had to say. The club speaks for itself, the fanbase and the history of the Blades, it was quite an easy decision to make.

“I just want to play some games, and hopefully score some goals.”

Wilson was delighted to have captured Gallagher after keeping tabs on the Foxes player, who has only featured once this season for the Midlands club, in a League Cup defeat to Burton.

“We had an idea of his availability, so it’s great from our perspective,” said Wilson.
