Bunn up for the fight with tips from the top

The 20-year-old , who has joined the Blades on a month’s loan from Manchester City, made his debut off the bench in last week’s defeat at Rotherham United.

The striker – son of former Oldham foward Frankie Bunn – hopes to put an 11-month cruciate ligament injury lay-off behind him and kick-start his career at Bramall Lane.

“We will see how this month goes first and then it’s up to the manager,” said Bunn.

“United is a massive club, one that’s in similar stature to Manchester City, so would be a great club for any young lad to come to.

“I have been injured for 11 months prior to this so I am obviously just hoping to play as many games as I can.

“It’s been good so far. Obviously the result last weekend was disappointing, but we have a great game this Saturday to put things right. I have had a few loan spells before this but perhaps not at teams as big as Sheffield United.

“I will learn here. I have a bit of experience in this league so hopefully I can do well if given a chance.”

The Blades have struggled for goals this term, scoring five in six League One games, but Bunn believes those statistics do not give a true reflection of the squad.

“The lads that are already here are more than capable of scoring goals in this league,” he said.

“Once we get a couple of wins under our belt I think the goals will start to flow.

“Every striker goes through times like this. Sometimes you stop doing things which are just natural to you, concentrating on things which you don’t have to.”

Bunn has previously trained with the first-team at City and went on a pre-season tour with the Eastlands club.

“There’s a lot of people who have given me advice,” said Bunn.

“I trained with the first team a couple of times and went away with them on pre-season prior to last season. That was obviously a good experience for me, with the players they have.

“People like Aguero and Tevez, you can learn a lot from just watching them. They didn’t have the best English, to be fair, but you can still learn from them.”

On his injury, Bunn said: “It was very frustrating. I am over that now and just looking forward to this season.

“It’s a horrible injury to have. It made me realise how much I loved football and how desperate I was to get back playing.”

Manager David Weir said of Bunn: “I like his directness, his honesty, he’s full of energy and has good attributes going forward.

“He’s different to what we have already got, he’s very direct, strong and powerful.”
