Bury 0 Sheffield United 3: Blades are praised by Wilson after strolling to convincing triumph

SHEFFIELD United manager Danny Wilson praised his team’s “outstanding” performance after romping to a richly-deserved win at Bury.

Three goals in the second half saw United complete the double over their hosts at Gigg Lane to remain in the League One automatic promotion places.

It wasn’t until the 54th minute that the breakthrough came, however, when Kevin McDonald delivered a well-timed pass from left to right to Richard Cresswell, allowing the striker to beat the offside trap and curl a left-footed effort into the far corner.

Eight minutes later, Cresswell’s in-form strike partner, Ched Evans, turned sharply in the area to make it two.

The points were sealed when Matt Lowton cut the ball back for Lee Williamson to drill his shot into the corner of the net.

The result was enough for the Blades to remain clear in second place, four points behind leaders Charlton Athletic, who denied Steel City rivals Wednesday 1-0 at Hillsborough, an outcome which saw them drop to fourth in the table following Huddersfield’s 1-0 win over Oldham.

Afterwards, Wilson was full of admiration for the way his players had worked together as a unit in order to achieve a richly-deserved thre points.

“It was outstanding,” said Wilson.

“Sometimes you can go over the top and say things about the players but as a manager you can’t ask for anything more.

“That’s a proper team performance.

“A lot of teams, and a lot of fans, will underestimate the challenge when you come here.

“But we certainly we didn’t do that and we saw in the first half how difficult they can be to play against.”
