Davies looks for improved set-piece gain

The former Derby County midfielder has netted four times this season, but has been frustrated United have not taken advantage more from free-kicks and corners.

His set-piece deliveries have been impressive this term, and Davies hopes, sooner rather than later, they will start to pay off in front of goal.

“We do a lot of work on set-pieces,” said the 33-year-old. “We’re disappointed we haven’t scored more of them.

“I do work on them every day, individually and as a group. I do that for 20 minutes or half an hour after every session. It’s a really important part of the game.

“I’ve done that all the way through my career because I know if I don’t put the ball in the right areas, people are going to moan. And, if I do, we’ve got people here who can attack the ball.”

The Blades have only played four home games in League One ahead of today, and Davies know if United are to be successful they must take advantage of Bramall Lane.

“Home advantage is important. It would be nice to get three points to take into the Bradford game,” he said.

“We’re fortunate to play in front of 18,000 every week. That lifts you. But it can also make it harder too because, no disrespect to people like Crawley, but they are used to being out there in front of two or three thousand at times. It’s the first game a lot of teams coming here will look for at the start of the season, I know, because I’ve been on the other side, and they’ll automatically lift their performances because of that.”
