FT Sheffield United 3 Hartlepool United 1: Evans leads way in Blades triumph

Sheffield United will be hoping to cling on to second spot in League One today when they host Hartlepool United at Bramall Lane.

Striker James Beattie missed out for the Blades despite both Richard Cresswell and Stephen Quinn serving one game bans. Beattie was named a substitute.

Midfielder Lee Williamson is back from suspension but defenders Chris Morgan and Andy Taylor remain long term absentees.

Ryan Flynn opened the scoring after 12 minutes, before Chris Porter added a second on 34 minutes.

United were 3-0 ahead on 42 minutes, the impressive Ched Evans getting his name on the scoresheet.

Peter Hartley grabbed a late consolation for the visitors.

Victory keeps United second, with city rivals Wednesday also winning at Deepdale.
