Grayson left to rue unchanged Town line-up

Town had climbed to third in the Championship after beating Wolves in a high-powered performance last Saturday.

But that same team fell flat at London Road as George Boyd, twice, and Kgosi Ntlhe gave Peterborough a three-goal lead, with Adam Hammill’s goal proving no more than a consolation.

“There is no doubt Peterborough deserved that,” said Grayson.

“We didn’t play well collectively. We over-elaborated and made poor decisions on the ball and we were too slow on and off it.

“We received plenty of hype after the weekend and I wanted to give those players the chance to get another win, but maybe I should have made changes.

“Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but we need to make ourselves harder to beat than that.”

Barnsley manager Keith Hill thought his side were staring defeat in the face against managerless Crystal Palace before David Perkins’s 86th-minute equaliser at Oakwell.

The midfielder picked up a loose ball on the edge of the area before curling a shot into the top corner.

“I really couldn’t see us breaking down the block in front of their own goal in the defensive third of the pitch,” said Hill. “I’m not too sure whether I got it right with the starting XI but you try to put your trust in the players and I wouldn’t say they let us down, but I want points so I made those changes so that we didn’t lose the game.”

Danny Wilson was full of praise for his Sheffield United players after they extended their unbeaten start to the season with a scrappy 1-0 win over 10-man Walsall.

The Blades were unable to build on Nick Blackman’s first-half penealty, but Wilson said: “I don’t think people understand the respect we hold for the teams who come here.

“When you come to our place the expectation levels are so high people think you are going to wipe the floor with teams, but it doesn’t work that way. We know what some of these lads are capable of.

“Yes, we got a scrappy win but that might go a long way towards us being successful. That was a great three points.”

Dean Saunders was delighted after Doncaster Rovers snatched a late win at leaders Tranmere.

Iain Hume plundered the winning goal deep into stoppage time, just moments after Jake Cassidy had appeared to rescue a point for Tranmere.

Saunders said: “It can be sickening to be on the wrong end of last minute goals but we are the ones who went home with one this time and it is a great feeling.”
