MK Dons 1-0 Sheffield United - Blades’ unbeaten run ends

SHEFFIELD UNITED saw the last remaining unbeaten record in the Football League end in heartbreaking fashion at MK Dons.

Karl Robinson’s side famously were the last team to beat the Blades in a League One fixture, triumphing 1-0 in April and they repeated the trick, albeit with a last-gasp penalty.

Shaun Williams was the hero for the hosts, netting after Darryl Westlake was penalised for bringing down the influential Angelo Balanta.

It was harsh on the Blades, who were desperately close to recording their fifth successive clean sheet in the division - and ninth this term - while extending their streak without a league defeat to 19 matches.

The first-half proved a tightly-contested affair with the Blades’ best chance seeing Nick Blackman test the reactions of David Martin, whole at the other end, ex-Sheffield Wednesday forward Ryan Lowe spurned a presentable chance following Balanta’s assist.

After the break, highly-rated keeper George Long had to be on his mettle to deny Lowe with chances at a premium ahead of the dramatic denouement at the death.

Williams scored the winner from the spot after David McAllister brought Dean Bowditch down in the area.
