Out of jail Robertson heads to Scotland after rejecting chance to impress Millers

FORMER Sheffield United striker Jordan Robertson has snubbed the opportunity of a move to Rotherham United and is set to join Scottish Premier League club St Johnstone instead.

Robertson, 23, had spent 17 months in jail after causing death by dangerous driving in a motorway crash two years ago but had been training with the Millers this week following his release.

Manager Ronnie Moore planned to make a decision on his future after a reserve team game against York City on Wednesday but Robertson turned down the invitation to play in the game.

“It’s daft really because nobody in this country is going to take him on without having a look first,” said Moore. “I had only seen him train – and even I can look good in training. It was only a matter of waiting another 24 hours but it was a guaranteed contract up there so he’s gone for the security more than anything.”

Robertson, who also had a spell with Dundee United three years ago, will be a free agent again this summer and Moore has not ruled out a possible fresh move.

The Millers host Bury tomorrow and will be looking to bounce back from their midweek defeat against Bradford City. Moore is optimistic that the Bantams will not take up the option to recall on-loan winger Omar Daley after this weekend’s fixture.
