Paul Warne on Rotherham United's players whose deals expire in June

ROTHERHAM UNITED manager Paul Warne envisages that the futures of the club's players whose deals expire in the summer will start to be seriously addressed next month.

With the January transfer window having reached the half-way mark and with two full weeks of the window still to run, the immediate priority remains on potential business in and out of the club.

Warne anticipates that incoming activity is only likely to arrive towards the end of the window, with some players likely to move out beforehand during a window which is proving not to be straightforward for most EFL clubs.

Mickel Miller joined Northampton Town on loan for the rest of the season on Thursday and other fringe players could head out of the club shortly.

After the deadline at the start of February, attention will then start to switch to the futures of those who are out of contract in June.

Matt Olosunde, Clark Robertson, Shaun MacDonald, Richard Wood, Kyle Vassell, Adam Thompson, Billy Jones and Josh Vickers all see their deals expire, while the loan deals of Jamal Blackman, George Hirst and Florian Jozefzoon will end.

On the situation, Warne - whose side visit Derby County in a relegation six-pointer on Saturday- commented: "We have just to get through this month and get in the 'ins and outs' and reshuffle the pack and the ones who are at the forefront of our minds going forward as a club just need to keep performing at the level, really and that is the truth of it.

"We cannot be carried away and we are not in a position to really negotiate at the moment really, to a certain extent. We do not know what league we are going to be in.

"Unfortunately, we have got a massive fixture pile-up to chase everybody back up now.

"There are players who are contracted until the summer who will naturally erode away. That is the same everywhere. There are players out of contract this summer who we would like to tie down.

"However, some of those players might want to go and play their football elsewhere, whether it be a different country or club. I just think although we have had board meetings about who we want to keep and speak to, this month is complicated enough without trying to re-negotiate, really. I think that will be a February thing."
