Former Premier League striker Dave Kitson continued Sheffield United’s terrific unbeaten start to the season with the only goal at Deepdale.
Danny Wilson’s side have yet to be beaten this season and they preserved that status with a doughty win at Preston.
United dominated possession and won the game thanks to Kitson’s goal two minutes before half-time.
Further good news for United came in the shape of a defeat for leaders Tranmere at Bournemouth.
