Prince Abdullah on lack of transfers at Sheffield United

SHEFFIELD UNITED owner Prince Abdullah remains confident that the Blades can 'save ourselves from within' after revealing why the club did not dip into the transfer market last month.

The Blades were widely expected to bring in a couple of loans, but in the event, the Bramall Lane outfit completed no pieces of incoming business in the window.

The significant news has arrived on the pitch where three victories over Newcastle United, Manchester United and West Brom have revitalised Chris Wilder's side, who are no longer cast adrift on their own at the foot of the table.

For the Blades to have any realistic chance of producing a 'Great Escape', their form must continue.

But Prince Adbullah has stressed he always believed that the answers would come from within.

Speaking to Talksport and explaining the decision not to make new signings, he said: "You always have to position yourself and not think with emotions.

"We had to look at our position in the table. If we brought in two or three loans and they didn't work out, it would add to the burden that we would have to manage next year.

"You have to look at our past record in loans, especially in January. The board made that decision.

"When the team is playing well, they don't need anyone. I don't think one player could have saved us. We have to save ourselves from within.

"I really believe in the team and in the players that we have. The odds are against us but if we perform as we have recently, we can pull it around.

"We love the team and the players and the city and we're going to be in it together, no matter what the league.

"If we are in the Championship I don't think we'll be long there, we have the chance to bounce straight back."

Handing support to manager Chris Wilder after coming through some tough times this term, he added: "I believe in him.

"If he wasn't the manager of the team I would hire him now and if the worst comes to the worst and we are relegated, I believe he is the manager to take us back quickly."
