Sharp to savour every moment on scoring return to Sheffield United

The 29-year-old striker started his career at Bramall Lane, returned for a three year spell between 2007-10, before arriving back at the Blades this summer from Leeds United.

He admits “I was young, naive and got caught up in the dream” of playing for his beloved Blades in previous stints, but is now determined to enjoy every moment in a red and white shirt.

He netted his first goal since his summer arrival in a 2-0 win over Blackpool on Saturday, and the emotions poured out as he unashamedly kissed the club badge on his shirt.

“It was nice to score at The Kop end,” he said. “I didn’t do that much last time here.

“I don’t think then I savoured my goals as much as I should.

“I was young, naive and got caught up in the dream. This time I appreciate where I am more, I know I’m playing for my club.

“I’m just so happy to be back at this great club and I can handle it more now. I’m more experienced and older.”

Sharp may miss out tomorrow night as Nigel Adkins prepares to rotate his squad for the League cup trip to Fulham.

It’s the first of three successive long away trips in a week for the Blades, as Craven Cottage is followed by Swindon Town on Saturday and Hartlepool next Tuesday.

Adkins has options in attack with Marc McNulty netting on Saturday after he replaced Conor Sammon up front.

And Sharp has been impressed by 22-year-old McNulty since returning to the club.

“Technically, Sparky is very, very good,” said Sharp.

“He’s a great finisher. he’s not had much game time this season but he’s an experienced player in his own right now.

“He knows that what you’ve got to do is take your chance when it comes and he’s done that, definitely. That’s all you can do.

“Sparky is going to be a big player for us this season. Personally, I think we’ve got a great chance of doing something and I’m sure he’s going to want to be a part of that.
