Sheffield move beckons for Leeds cast-off Ben Parker

SHEFFIELD United emerged today as leading contenders to take Ben Parker from Elland Road following his release by new Leeds manager Neil Warnock.

The Blades are one of a number of clubs considering a deal with Parker, whose spell with Leeds came to an end in April.

United manager Danny Wilson is considering a move for Parker after releasing Andy Taylor and losing Lescinel Jean-Francois to a serious knee injury.

Parker, 24, has seen his career at Leeds blighted by injury. A hamstring strain in 2009 led to surgery seven times in the space of two years.

Sheffield Wednesday were also thought to be interested in him, and Scunthorpe may throw their hat in the ring.

Parker admitted recently that his sequence of fitness problems forced him to seriously consider retiring from professional football.

“I was running with the physios and then breaking down, building myself up and then breaking down over and over again,” he said.

“It got to a point where I was considering not playing again.”
