There was little of note in the opening half, former Blade Danny Philliskirk going closest to breaking the deadlock in front of the Kop.

But Matt Done broke the deadlock at the start of the second half, much to the relief of the 6,938 crowd inside the Lane. There were 682 away fans.

United were forced to play the final 25 minutes with 10 men when Che Adams was shown a straight red card after a tangle with an Oldham player in midfield.

John Brayford was unlucky not to double United's lead late in the game, but his long-range effort smacked the underside of the crossbar and bounced to safety.

The third round draw will take place on Monday evening.
