After an emotional tribute to former player and manager Gary Speed, United were soon on the backfoot in the game and fell behind after just three minutes.

Kevin Nicholson flighted the ball in and Rene Howe was on hand to tap the ball into the net in front of an empty Kop.

United improved after the break and two goals in as many minutes turned the game on its head.

There was a touch of fortune with Mark Ellis’s own goal, but the second from Ched Evans was pure class.

The game was now over and Evans added a third goal for the hosts, although Danny Stevens netted a late consolation.
