Sheffield United: Blades remain in good shape: Clough

SHEFFIELD UNITED manager Nigel Clough insists his Blades side remain in ‘good shape’ despite their winless League One streak extending to five matches in a 1-1 draw at Walsall.

A fine Jose Baxter opener put Clough’s side ahead in the first half, but a goal midway through the second-half from home substitute Ashley Grimes minutes after entering the fray earned the Saddlers a point.

Despite his fifth-placed side taking just three points from the last 15 available, Clough is retaining a sense of calm on a night when immediate play-off rivals Barnsley and Peterborough United failed to win along with Fleetwood and Doncaster Rovers.

Clough, whose side now have three home matches on the spin against Port Vale, Scunthorpe United and Crewe Alexandra on the agenda, said: “We are in control of our own destiny. We haven’t forgotten that and neither have the lads.

“It’s still in our hands and so we are still in good shape. Especially because there is now one less game to go.

“We’ve got important members of the squad coming back who will help us turn results like this into wins. At the stage of the season we are at now, it’s important to see that and it’s encouraging too.

“It’s another point on the road. That’s six unbeaten on the road now and so we’re pleased with that, but we should have gone on to win the game.”
