The Blades boss, whose 11th-placed side welcome Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night at Bramall Lane - is happy with the current senior options at his disposal, but admits ‘one or two’ squad players may be farmed out on loan to streamline his numbers a little.

Young defender Terry Kennedy, fit again following a serious knee injury, was allowed to link up on loan with League Two side Cambridge United - managed by ex-Blades midfielder Shaun Derry - late last week, but Adkins has stressed it has purely been sanctioned to allow the Barnsley-born stopper to boost his game time levels after a spell out.

On the incoming front, Adkins, whose side are seeking to end a run of three League One matches without a win, said: “We are not looking to bring anyone in at this moment in time.

“The January window will be talked about when we get closer to that.

“The emergency loan window shuts on Thursday and we are not looking for people to come in.

“Whether one or two just go out; there’s nothing planned at this moment in time, which is Monday.

“But one phone call could change the complexion of that.

“We will just have to wait and see.”

On the situation with Kennedy, Adkins added: “We have got a lot of time for Terry and he’s come through our system and we have got to look after him.

“We have given him an opportunity to play regular first-team football as he’s had a string of injuries, which is a big shame as his attitude has been top-drawer.

“He will be with them (Cambridge) until January.”
