The Blades had been in talks with Henderson's parent club Manchester United for some time and the deal has finally been signed off to enable the Cumbrian to stay at Bramall Lane until the conclusion of the club's first campaign back in the Premier League at Southampton on July 26.

Henderson has enjoyed another outstanding season at S2 following on from his sterling exploits in helping the club get promoted in 2018-19 in a first season-long loan at the Blades.

His feats in 2019-20 have seen him propel himself onto the international stage, with clarification, as expected, having now arrived to enable him to finish out the campaign in South Yorkshire.

Meanwhile, the Blades have confirmed that Panos Retsos has returned to Bayer Leverkusen with the club deciding not taking up the option to purchase the 21-year-old on a permanent deal.

But Dutch forward Richairo Živković will also remain in South Yorkshire until the conclusion of the season after a deal was agreed with his Chinese parent club Changchun Yatai.

Phil Jagielka, Jack Rodwell, Kieron Freeman and Leon Clarke have also penned Covid-19 contract extensions to their deals, which were due to expire at the end of this month.
