Ryan Flynn (hamstring) is also a doubt, but Jay McEveley may back in the fold, with the Liverpudlian on the mend after a dislocated shoulder.

But better news could see Bob Harris return from a groin injury, with the Scot having undergone plenty of one on one rehabilitation work.

He could return to training on Friday, Clough revealed.

The Blades need a point to be mathematically sure of confirming their play-off place in League One at Orient on Saturday.

Rochdale, who face MK Dons at the weekend, maintained their slim top-six hopes with victory over the O’s last night.
