Stevenage 2 Sheffield United 1: Blades beaten by Laird strike

Danny Wilson’s Sheffield United crashed to defeat at Stevenage in League One.

The Blades have no fresh injury problems with defenders Johnny Ertl, Chris Morgan, and Andy Taylor still long term absentees. Midfielder Lee Williamson missed out despite recovering from a gashed leg while on-loan winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing is close to a return after a month out with hamstring trouble.

Scott Laird’s late strike saw Stevenage extend their excellent run of form with a victory over Sheffield United.

Stevenage took the lead when Craig Reid’s corner was not cleared by the Blades’ defence and Mark Roberts drilled a shot past Steve Simonsen.

Substitute Ched Evans pounced on a loose ball to equalise with a low shot into the corner.

Boro claimed the victory when Lawrie Wilson found Laird, who shot into the bottom right corner from 12 yards.
