Weir decides to take a break after sacking as Blades wait on Clough

Former Sheffield United boss David Weir says he will take time out from management before applying for any new jobs.

The former Everton coach was only in charge for 10 League One games before being sacked after picking up just one win and sitting bottom of the table.

Weir and assistant boss Lee Carsley were relieved of their posts last Friday, and the Blades hope to announce a new manager – with Nigel Clough favourite – before this weekend’s visit of Port Vale.

Former Rangers and Scotland international defender Weir said he had “no complaints” over the axe, as the Bramall Lane board had feared a relegation scrap if the poor run of results is allowed to continue.

“I think it’s important for Lee and I to speak about what went on,” he said.

“We need to look a the positives and the negatives and what we’ve learned. To jump straight back in would be difficult.

“We’ll definitely be better coaches for it and we’ll look to put what we learned into practice.”

“I’ve got no complaints because I went in with my eyes open.

“I felt like the players were on board with what we wanted, but we just didn’t get the breaks.

“I don’t think 10 league games is long enough to get your ideas up and running, but I understand because results were poor and people start to get worried.

“I thought we were at the start of something that would be a long-term project and could be successful. I’ll only take positive things from my time there.”

Leeds United defender Charlie Taylor has joined League Two high-fliers Fleetwood Town on an initial month’s loan.

The York-born left-back made his full United debut, aged just 17, against Crystal Palace in September 2011 and has made four appearances for the club in total.

Taylor, 20, has previously been out on loan at Bradford City and York City.

Rotherham United striker Danny Hylton has joined League Two side Bury on an emergency loan. The former Aldershot forward has struggled for first-team opportunities so far at the New York Stadium since joining in the summer.
