Wilson aiming to open up new gap on chasers

DANNY Wilson insists no-one at Sheffield United is panicking about being pegged back by Steel City rivals, Wednesday.

The Blades have seen a five-point lead and two-game advantage over the Owls wiped out over the past four weeks.

It means only goal difference is keeping Wilson’s side in the second automatic promotion place ahead of tonight’s trip to Meadow Lane.

Despite that, the United manager said: “We are not getting carried away at the fact that our advantage over the teams below us has been whittled away.

“The way we look at it is in a positive manner. Our thinking is we will just have to go out there and create another five-point gap. I have said it before and I will say it again, there is nothing between the teams at the top.

“It is going to go down to the wire and it could even come down to goal difference.”

United, whose final home game against Stevenage on April 28 will be shown live on Sky at 5.20pm, hope to have Kevin McDonald available after seven games out with a hamstring strain.

Meanwhile, Nick Montgomery has been loaned to Millwall for a month.

Wilson added: “I still see Nick’s long-term future as being with us. This is just an opportunity for him to get some games in so it is the ideal time for us as well as him to go out on loan.

“He will come back refreshed and that can only be good for us in the final two or three games of the season.”
