Wilson concedes Blades may have to accept cut-price offer for Evans

SHEFFIELD United striker Ched Evans will be allowed to leave Bramall Lane on the cheap.

The Blades are planning to cut their losses on the Welsh international who has been a major flop since his £3m arrival from Manchester City two summers ago.

Norwich, Ipswich, Middlesbrough and Leicester are keen but have still to lodge official bids.

Manager Danny Wilson said: “Ched wants to move on and wants a new challenge. We need him off our wage bill – so it may be a case of having to let him go at less than his market value.

“It would be a positive if it happens quickly but I cannot put a timescale on it,” he added. “It all depends when potentially interested clubs want to make their move.”

Wilson, meanwhile, has praised the attitude of midfielders Nick Montgomery and Stephen Quinn amid on-going speculation over their futures.

Leeds United are believed to be preparing offers for both players but Wilson said: “As yet there have been no enquiries for either player. They are in League One for a reason and they have to knuckle down for the challenge that lies ahead next season.

“To be fair to both lads their attitude in pre-season has been spot on,” he stressed.

“They have shown total commitment to the cause and have made it clear by the way they have gone about training that they will put everything into it if they are still with us at the start of the season.”

Former Blades winger Kyel Reid is training with Barnsley after being released by Charlton Athletic. Reid, 23, spent six months on loan at Oakwell four years ago.

Burnley have agreed a season-long loan for Manchester City fullback Kieran Trippier, who spent last season at Barnsley.
