Sheffield United's Monty fear

SHEFFIELD UNITED manager Kevin Blackwell fears the club will lose midfielder Nick Montgomery this summer.

Montgomery, 28, joined the Blades as a schoolboy but is ready to quit Bramall Lane as a free agent after being asked to take a pay cut.

Bolton Wanderers, Burnley, Middlesbrough, Cardiff City and Queens Park Rangers are all chasing his signature.

Blackwell said: "He has been exemplary for a long time now and that's why I want him to sign – but I need help from those who sort the contracts out.

"I believe that the majority of our fans now appreciate what he does for us and he has been an absolute colossus. Monty is well-respected in the game and there are things in his game that we need.

"He is a Blade through-and-through," added Blackwell.

"If I'm honest, I believe deep down that he would like to stay here."
