The Clarets stretched their Sky Bet Championship unbeaten run to six games at Hillsborough after Andre Gray’s early goal - his 18th of the season - was cancelled out by Kieran Lee after the break.

It was a hard-fought contest between two sides both with ambitions of promotion and after Burnley had won their last three league games with an aggregate of 10-2, they were unable to control it in a similar manner.

It looked like normal service had resumed after Gray tapped in with just three minutes on the clock, but they were unable to build on that early advantage and Lee poked home in the 48th minute.

Carvalhal accepted a draw was a fair result, but thought his Sheffield Wednesday side were more likely to have gone on and won it, despite creating no clear-cut chances.

“This is one of the strongest teams in the competition, they are a very good team, they are winning three and four and they did well against Arsenal in the FA Cup,” the Portuguese said.

“After they scored we didn’t lose our balance and we tried to play our football.

“We were a little nervous and in the second half we played with more speed.

“We tried to find the second goal but we just couldn’t. I think if anyone was going to win it it was us. We’ll take the point against one of the strongest teams in the competition.

“The second half was nearer to what we can do. A draw is the correct score in my opinion but if anyone was going to win it was us.

“The negative was that we conceded so early, the positive is that we got back into it using our heads and our hearts.”

The Clarets had the best chance to win the game, but Sam Vokes missed a free volley at the far post and both sides had to settle for a point.

“I think we arguably had the best chance of the game which we didn’t take, but really both teams attempted to play on a really tough pitch. Overall it was just about right,” Bunrley boss Sean Dyche said.

“I have been pleased with the players and I am pleased again. It is hard to dominate every game and we have dominated a lot lately.

“We are in a tough run of games and we are getting some decent points on the table.

“They have only been beaten once here this season, they are a good side. We have had plenty of good days and scored goals, but that was the only down side of tonight.

“We were really secure in our third and the middle third, I just felt we didn’t keep the ball well enough in the final third.”
