A big week of movement elsewhere, but no change at the top.

Rovers have won seven of their last eight games in League One - with their latest victims being AFC Wimbledon. They are third in the division’s six-match form guide.

Darren Moore’s side - who bowed out of the Cup at one of the country’s form sides in West Ham last weekend - face a ‘biggie’ at Lincoln City on Saturday. Should be a cracker.

What an excellent job that the interim team of Mark Trueman and Connor Sellars are doing.

City are unbeaten in seven League Two matches under the duo and ranked third in the league’s latest six-match form ratings.

The Bantams have won three of their last four away outings and have taken 15 points from the last 21. Much, much better.

Two away games yielded differing fortunes for the Tigers, who produced an ‘After the Lord Mayor’s Show’ performance in going down 2-0 at Accrington - three days on from an outstanding 4-0 victory at another high-flier in Portsmouth.

The bigger picture is relatively healthy. Grant McCann’s side have lost just once in their past seven outings in all competitions and are ranked sixth in League One’s six-match guide.

4: Rotherham United LLLWDW (+3)

New year, new hope.

Paul Warne is a great believer in performances turning into results and that has certainly been the case of late for the rejuvenated Millers.

Two fine away performances have delivered outstanding Championship away wins at Middlesbrough and Derby County to galvanise Rotherham’s survival fight. Superb.

A rough old season for the Blades, but they have only just gone and produced THE shock result of the Premier League season.

No-one - repeat no-one - expected them to turn over Manchester United in their own back yard as the brilliant Blades won at Old Trafford for the first time since Boxing Day, 1973.

It was Chris Wilder’s side’s first away win in the league in almost a year. Unbeaten once in five matches in all competitions, United are 13th in the top-flight’s six-match form guide. Think they call it progress..

Could not follow up a fantastic weekend Cup win over Norwich with victory over their old Oakwell nemesis in Cardiff, now unbeaten in seven matches in this quarter of South Yorkshire.

A tough January league itinerary was sure to be a test for the Reds and so it has proved in four winless matches. They finish off at Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

7: Leeds United WWLLLW (+3)

Registered arguably their most important Premier League success of the season to date on a milestone night at St James’ Park.

Leeds got their ball rolling in 2021 with a 2-1 victory - to seal their first double over Newcastle United since 1975-76 and more importantly, end a worrying three-match losing streak in all competitions.

Back on track.

8: Sheffield Wednesday DWWWLL (-6)

Back to reality for the Owls, whose Cup exit at Everton was followed by a grim and desperately disappointing 2-0 loss at Coventry City, which showed why they are down among the Championship dead men.

Entertain Preston on Saturday where they will be seeking to dig up another precious Hillsborough win after successes over Derby, Boro and Coventry.

9: Middlesbrough WLLWLL (-6)

The homesickness which bedevilled Boro last season has flared up again with an unwelcome re-appearance.

The Teessiders have now lost their last three in a row at the Riverside without scoring against Birmingham, Blackburn and now Rotherham - a significant dent to their top-six pitch.

Next up for Boro?. Only a trip to Norwich followed by a home game with Brentford…

10: Harrogate Town LWLDDL (unchanged)

Edged out at Tranmere Rovers in midweek, it is at home where Harrogate’s real issues lie.

Fourth in League One’s away table, Simon Weaver’s side possess the worst home record and are without a win in eight games since October 17.

They welcome Newport County this weekend.

11: Huddersfield Town WLLLLL (unchanged)

The new year has been grim for Huddersfield Town.

Five games in and all have ended up in defeats. It is all a bit concerning.

Town end January at home to Stoke on Saturday and a February itinerary sees them face Luton, Wycombe and Derby, among others.
