The Owls host United on Sunday in front of a sell-out 33,000 crowd with local bragging rights up for grabs.

Chris Wilder’s Blades sit higher in the table but he insisted earlier this week that the pressure is on Wednesday after failing to secure promotion after spending big in the last few years.

Carvalhal said today at his pre-match briefing: “We have pressure on all the games. I don’t feel any extra pressure comparing with the first game we arrived two seasons ago. It is the same.

“This is a massive club and we have an obligation to fight for three points against all the opponents in the world. We try to win all the games and the pressure is the same.”

Carvalhal may be about to enjoy his first taste of an all Steel City affair but the Portuguese will have plenty of his own derby experience to fall back on

“I have played and managed in a lot of derbies,” he added. “Some of them are very hard. Sporting-Benfica is something unbelievable. Besiktas v Galatasaraay and so on.

“These kind of games are very important to the fans and we understand that.

“But we have to focus on the things that we can do to win the games. We will be focused on specific things to try and win the game. These are the things we can control.”
