League officials met today to determine whether or not all the paperwork was completed before the 11pm transfer deadline.

A statement read: “The EFL is now satisfied that the relevant documents in relation to the transfer of Jordan Rhodes from Middlesbrough to Sheffield Wednesday were sent prior to the expiry of last night’s deadline, thereby allowing the EFL to accept the registration and the transfer of the player.”

As the deadline passed last night, details emerged that the former Huddersfield striker Rhodes, 26, had agreed a four-year deal with the clubs agreeing a fee that could rise to £10m.

However the deal is understood to be an initial loan with a view to a permanent move in the summer.

Rhodes has made just six appearances for Boro in the Premier League this season having joined the Teesiders for a fee close to £10 million last January.

He scored 82 league goals in 159 games for Blackburn but failed to command a regular place in the side, despite scoring five goals in 18 appearances to help Middlesbrough win automatic promotion to the top flight.

Speaking after Boro’s 1-1 draw against West Brom last night, manager Aitor Karanka said: “I wish him (Rhodes) all the best as his attitude in every single training session has been amazing.”

Rhodes established himself at Huddersfield, scoring 73 league goals in 124 appearances before making an £8m switch to Blackburn in August, 2012.

He joins his father, Andy, who is goalkeeping coach, at Hillsborough.
