The Owls had been due to host Swansea City and their near-neighbours and Championship relegation rivals Rotherham were scheduled to face Queens Park Rangers but the cold snap has accounted for both games.

League Two Harrogate Town's match against Leyton Orient is also off because of a frozen pitch.

Officials took the decision at noon on Friday to call the game off, the latest in a string of postponements and abandonments the Sulphurites have suffered this season thanks to Covid-19 and the weather.

Fortunately Town have largely made up the backlog and although they have a game in hand on some League Two teams, they have played a couple more than others.

Bradford City's game at Scunthorpe United, which was abandoned due to snow after 33 minutes on Tuesday, will now be played on March 23 at 7pm.

Meanwhile, Halifax Town's Conference game at home to Dover Athletic has also been called off because of a frozen pitch.

York City's scheduled Conference North home game against Farsley Celtic has been postponed too, with the visitors declaring themselves unable to raise a team amidst the uncertainty over whether the Conference North season will continue because of questions over how it will be funded. Saturday had been due to be the latest attempt for the Minstermen to play the first game at their new Community Stadium at Monks Cross.

Clubs have until February 28 to vote on whether the season should be voided. Farsley and Bradford (Park Avenue) are expected to vote for that, York to oppose it.

Guiseley's home game against Boston United is subject to a Friday afternoon pitch inspection.

The problems have not been limited to the lower leagues, with Rotherham United's Championship game at home to Queens Park Rangers off because of a frozen pitch.
