Sheffield Wednesday v Rotherham United - Clean sheets targetted by Owls Michael Turner after spell on sidelines

Last season the Owls equalled a club record 17 shut-outs in a league season under then head coach Stuart Gray.

This season, sixth-placed Wednesday have been far more attacking, but they have still been miserly in defence.

Under Carlos Carvalhal, they have collected 11 clean sheets in 34 games. The latest of those came at Hull City when Turner made a welcome comeback from a niggling knee injury, which has restricted the 32-year-old to just nine games since joining on loan from Norwich City.

With 12 games remaining, starting with today’s visit of neighbours Rotherham United, Turner is eager to end the campaign with a flourish.

“As a defender, you always try and keep as many clean sheets as possible,” said Turner. “Hopefully we can get near to that record.

“With the attacking threat we have had this year, it’s probably more impressive that we have been able to keep many sheets, and score as many goals as we have done.

“The team drew many games last year, and I think they were disappointed they didn’t turn more into wins. This season we have a solid base, a good foundation to build on.

“Being back in the side (at Hull) was very pleasing. It’s been a bit frustrating for myself.

“When I first came I started really well, and was pleased how things went.

“But then I picked up a knee injury.

“Now I want to stay fit for the rest of the season, and hopefully there’s good things to come for the club, exciting times, and every player wants to be part of that,” he added.
