No official reason has been given for the Professional Development League match being called off, but it comes on the day the Football League and Premier League have called emergency meetings to discuss whether this weekend's matches should go ahead.

That night it was announced that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had contracted the virus, and by Friday morning it was revealed that Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi had also tested positive.

Both club's entire first teams, along with Everton's, are self-isolating, as are some Manchester City and Leicester City players.

Opinion is split amongst the Football League clubs as to how best to proceed, with some pressing for a postponement of fixtures, others reliant on the money to get through the season.

It is expected that the Football League will make its decision after the Premier League.

With two rounds of weekend fixtures before the next scheduled international break, a short-term decision could be reached.

The Owls' under-23 game was due to be played at Birmingham at 1.30pm. They have said that a new date will be announced in due course.
