Garry Monk frustrated at Sheffield Wednesday's three mistake-ridden defeats

Sheffield Wednesday manager Garry Monk says the next three matches will be a real test of his players, whose confidence appears to have evaporated.

The Owls have lost three games in a week, but none was more humiliating or comprehensive than the 3-0 defeat at neighbours Rotherham United.

Jamie Lindsay scored barely a minute after the game restarted following 11-and-a-half minutes off the field because of an unidentified drone flying overhead, and Tom Lees was sent off conceding the first-half penalty from which Dan Barlaser doubled the lead.

Lindsay ensured the ten men went in 3-0 down at the break.

Monk said it was typical of his side's sloppy recent performances, and blasted his players as “not good enough.”

“Everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong in that first half,” he reflected. “We compounded mistakes with other mistakes. That’s exactly how it’s been in these last two games.

“Everyone has been below par and mistakes have crept back into our game for whatever reason.

“Ten days ago, we were in a good frame of mind, good confidence levels but within a week, especially these last two games, it’s turned on its head. Of course it’s not good enough.

“These next three games are huge and will be a big test of how far this group has come and how far it can go.”

The Owls, who remain bottom of the Championship on minus four points, are at winless Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, and host Bournemouth and Millwall before November's international break.
