Bournemouth 2 Sheffield Wednesday 0: Megson rues missed chances

Gary Megson saw his Sheffield Wednesday side beaten for the first time this season at Bournemouth in League One

New signing Chris Lines was named as an Owls substitute but striker Chris O’Grady will be given more time to recover from a heal injury before making his debut.

The Owls recalled all 10 of the players who were rested in midweek for the Carling Cup victory over Blackpool.

But Adam Barrett (38) put the hosts in front after Wednesday defended poorly from a corner.

And it got worse for the Owls when substitute Harry Arter (83) added a second goal.

Owls boss Megson said: “I’m really disappointed because I thought we started the game well, had more the of ball, and looked the most dangerous.

“But we didn’t take the chances we created and the first goal is crucial in any game.

“We gifted Bournemouth their first goal with marking that was not like us and then we gifted them their second goal when we switched off and rolled the ball out of play and they scored after the resulting throw in.”
